Vintage Band Festival at Riverwalk Market Fair this Saturday, July 30! Art and Fine Craft, Local Produce & Artisan Foods
Saturday’s Riverwalk Market Fair welcomes the Vintage Band Festival, playing on stage in the midst of our bountiful collection of fresh local produce, artisan foods, and the area’s finest art and craft, this Saturday July 30 starting at 9 a.m. on Historic Downtown Northfield’s Bridge Square.
Seasonal Produce from Local Farmers, Artisan Foods, Art and Fine Craft
Local farmers have summer produce including tomatoes, slicing cucumbers, zucchini, green peppers, sweet peppers, eggplant, patty pan squash, romaine, green and red butter lettuce, cabbage, Swiss chard, arugula, kale, kohlrabi, fennel, snow peas, spinach, radishes, green onions, snow peas, potatoes, cilantro, broccoli, and herbs, as well as flower bouquets, honey, and handmade natural soaps.
Artisan foods include fresh-baked breads, delicious sweet and savory pastries, cookies and cupcakes, jams and jellies, and locally roasted coffee.
Jewelry, pottery, wood hand-crafted home accessories, fused glass art, fiber art, and photography are among the fine art and fine craft for sale. All art and fine craft is original work, designed and created by the artists.
Featured Farmer: Adam Weeks of Mississippi Hills CSA
Adam Weeks says, “I am truly passionate about what I do for a living. I have never woken up and not wanted to go to work since I started farming.” For the past four years, Adam has been farming on land near Goodhue and selling his produce at Riverwalk Market Fair and through a 40-member CSA. Adam has also begun partnering with other businesses, who use his produce in their artisan-made foods.
Growing and offering a wide variety of produce, Adam is working to enhance his chemical-free approach to farming. He has added cover crops to add nutrients to the soil, rather than using fertilizer. Expanding his wildflower area, and adding his own hives, has allowed him to attract more pollinators.
Featured Artist: Becky Korbel of Red Sky Beads
Becky Korbel’s love of nature inspires her handcrafted jewelry. Her earth-tone bracelets, necklaces, and earrings feature Czechoslovakian glass beads, wire-wrapped gemstones, and African Kazuri beads, handmade with clay from Mt. Kenya.
Becky got her start with a jewelry class in 2009. She fell in love with making bracelets, and was inspired to make so much jewelry that she decided she needed to try to sell it. Lucky us!
Featured Artist: Northfield Arts Guild/Summer Art Mart
A program of the Northfield Arts Guild, the Art Mart is a six-week summer program that gives participants the opportunity to develop and create artful objects for the marketplace. The focus is to provide a well-structured, safe social environment for teens and young adults on the autism spectrum. The program meets twice per week, and local area artists provide instruction and support to develop artistic and entrepreneurial skills. Folk-inspired ceramics are a hallmark product of the Art Mart.
