Music on October 15 by Josh Ruebeck and Briannon Carlsen

Josh Ruebeck.smJosh Ruebeck is a Carleton College student with a love and appreciation for folk music that belies his youth. A musician since he was 7 years old, Josh gravitated to the music of Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan because of the stories told in those songs. The music inspired him to learn to play the guitar, the cello, and develop his voice into a fine instrument as well. He and fellow Carleton student Briannon Carlsen will be sharing their favorite folk songs on Saturday at Riverwalk Market Fair.

Hats by Nancy Stroessner of Prairie Sun Design

For fall, fabric artist Nancy Stroessner of Prairie Sun Design makes hats. Nancy’s Russian-style hats, made from polar fleece, are structured to have shape on the head and still be soft enough to stuff in a pocket. Some have a contemporary look, like her Hudson’s Bay white-with-stripes design. Others have vintage-style detailing and button accents to give a vintage 1920’s look. Colors include white, brown, red, green, and autumn orange. Also look for Nancy’s fabric purses and pillows. Check out Nancy’s fabric creations at Etsy.

Natural, Bohemian Style Flower Bouquets from Humble Pie Farms

Flower bouquet by Humble Pie Farm

It’s not too early for sunflower bouquets because Humble Pie Farm started their sunflowers in a greenhouse early this spring. Flowers coming up in the next few weeks are sweet william, snapdragon, herbs, and dahlias. Mike Leck and Jennifer Nelson create bouquets in a natural, bohemian design style that showcases the spectacular beauty of fresh, seasonal flowers. Humble Pie Farm also sells flowers at through the Wedge Coop and creates celebrations in flowers for weddings. Mike and Jennifer are proud to grow local and organic flowers that are free of the chemicals that drench most commercial flowers that are grown thousands of miles away. Flowers bring an abundance of beneficial insects and birds and diversity of soil food to the two organic vegetable farms that share land with Humble Pie Farms.
