Farmers have summer produce including fresh-picked salad greens, green beans, broccoli, zucchini, Asian and head cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumber, kale, potatoes, carrots and herbs, along with eggs, and flowers. Locally grown heirloom, cherry, and Roma tomatoes are now available, as well as new crop fall apples.  Artisan foods include fresh-baked breads and delicious sweet and savory pastries jams, jellies, jams, and pickles.

Photographs, handcrafted leather goods, ceramics, fused glass art, fiber art, greeting cards, hand crafted accessories, and jewelry are among the art and fine crafts for sale.

Fresh Bread from Crack of Dawn Bakery

Crack of Dawn bakes home-made, European style, crusty, free-formed bread.  Staple breads available every week are a white boule, a light whole wheat boule, an asiago-herb focaccia, and several gluten-free breads.  Each week Chris and Lori Momberg also bake a sweet and a savory weekly specialty bread.  “Baking bread has become such a joy for us and something we can work at together,” Lori Momberg says. The couple rolls out of bed before the crack of dawn each Saturday to make their bread fresh for Riverwalk, which inspired the company’s name.

Watercolor Artist Kathy Miller Returns to Riverwalk

Award winning watercolor artist Kathy Miller returns to Riverwalk for three Saturdays, September 13, 20, and 27.  One of Riverwalk Market Fair’s most popular artists, Kathy creates floral and landscape watercolor paintings and limited edition prints.  Kathy’s “White Peonies” won the prestigious “Best of Show” award at the Minnesota

Watercolor Society’s 2013 Juried Spring Show.  Kathy’s “Tomatoes” is featured on Riverwalk Market Fair’s 2014 poster.  A former teacher, and always a passionate artist, Kathy fell in love with watercolor as she neared retirement.  A watercolor workshop in Giverny, France, site of Claude Monet’s garden, provided Kathy with greater insight, visual perception, and emotional sensitivity in her work.  Kathy says, “Being there where Claude Monet painted, and experiencing the light as he did, has had a profound effect on me.  I am certain it will forever alter how I see and paint the world around me.”

Bobby Griffiths and Christine Bergland are a Twin Cities musical duo of one guitar and two voices. Their musical sets feature well-known Americana songs, some instrumental picking originals, lots of harmonies, and pleasing arrangements.  They play a wide array of ballads and livelier songs from Louis Armstrong to Pete Townshend, from Woody Guthrie to the Beatles. Bobby adores the Grateful Dead, and if Christine had her way the Indigo Girls would be a trio.

The Cannon River Watershed Partnership will host Riverwalk’s kids activity on Cannon River water quality on Saturday. How murky or clear is the water?  How much sediment is in the river, and what does that mean for water quality?  Come and learn more about the Cannon River.

Riverwalk Market Fair Opening Day Celebration!

Riverwalk Market Fair Season Opens on June 1, 2013

Riverwalk Market Fair’s 21 Saturday season kicks off on Saturday, June 1. Riverwalk, now in it’s 4th year, is located in Northfield’s historic downtown on Bridge Square along the scenic Cannon River.  Hours are 9 am to 1 pm, rain or shine.

Produce From Local Farmers, Artisan Foods, Art and Fine Craft 

Local farGoatsmers will be on hand with fresh-picked early salad greens, radishes, a variety of bedding plants, eggs, and flowers. Artisan foods include fresh-baked breads, local honey, and delicious pastries, tarts and quiches from Martha’s Eats and Treats. The Fossum Family Farm returns with their beautiful Alpaca yarn.

Watercolors, prints, mixed-media paintings, ceramics, photography, glass art, and jewelry are among the art and fine crafts for sale on opening day. Several of Riverwalk Market Fair’s favorite artists are back, including Geralyn Thelen with her colorful fused glass plates, vases, and whimsical garden decorations, ceramist Barbara Zavaruha with her functional stoneware, and fine-art photographer Dennis McClintock.

Kathy Zeman of Nerstrand owns and operates Simple Harvest Farm Organics (www.simpleharvestfarm.com).  Her farm uses sustainable farming practices to produce a wide range ofproducts including, vegetables, goats, goat milk soap, cheese, poultry, pork, lamb, Lopi wool yarn and fleeces, and (with her brother, Nick) eggs.  As a special opening day treat, Kathy will feature her popular Rhubarb Fruit Roll-ups. Kathy has been a vendor at Riverwalk Market Fair since its beginning in 2010 and serves on the Board of Directors of Riverwalk Market Fair.

Saturday’s Featured Artist

Saturday’s Live Music and Kid’s Activity

Acclaimed hammered dulcimer artist and singer Kathleen Johnson (www.kathleen-johnson.com) returns to Riverwalk Market Fair with selections from France, Scotland, early America, and the Irish music revival of the 20th Century.  Suzuki violin students from Northfield will offer a 30-minute concert at 10 am.
