Summer Produce, Artisan Foods, Art and Fine Craft

Farmers have summer produce including fresh-picked salad greens, snow peas, rhubarb, green beans, radishes, broccoli, zucchini, Asian and head cabbage, kohlrabi, cucumber, kale, potatoes, carrots and herbs, along with eggs, and flowers. Local, hothouse-grown heirloom tomatoes are now available. Artisan foods include fresh-baked breads and delicious sweet and savory pastries jams, jellies, jams, pickles and pulled pork BBQ.

Photographs, handcrafted leather goods, ceramics, fused glass art, fiber art, hand crafted accessories, and jewelry are among the art and fine crafts for sale.

The first thing you should know about Cyndi Yang Fresh Flowers is that she grows vegetables too. This week look for potatoes, wax beans, zucchini, cucumbers, onions, leeks, kale, snow peas, basil, dill, mint, cilantro and other herbs. Flowers in season now are spectacular orange lilies, sunflowers, and zinnias.

Cyndi’s mom works with her at the farm and at Riverwalk. Cyndi, her mom, her aunts and uncles, and the entire extended Laotian family in Minnesota grow produce. Cyndi started working on farms early, picking cucumbers for pickling when she was in school. While Cyndi and her mom have been growing and selling

produce for 8 years, this is their first year at Riverwalk and Cyndi has now taken the lead on their produce business. In addition to Riverwalk they sell at produce markets in Minneapolis and Excelsior. Cyndi likes Riverwalk because it is convenient to their land in Rosemount.

Gretchen Fierke creates neckties, bowties, reversible women’s collars, headbands, and fabric bags. While she has been creating in fabric for several years, this is Gretchen’s first year at Riverwalk. Several stores in Minneapolis carry her work. Gretchen’s other job is as a preschool teacher for Northfield Montessori.

Guitarist and singer Neil Rowley is an energetic performer who is best known as a member of Chance Meetings, a group that plays regularly in Southern Minnesota and Iowa and weekly at Northfield’s Contented Cow.Neil is also found regularly at the Contented Cow Tuesday Jam sessions and is a popular guitar teacher. A long-time Northfielder, Neil is the marketing manager for Aging Services in Montgomery.

Kids can plant bean sprouts to grow at home and learn fun facts about nutrition in an activity presented by two programs under the umbrella of the outstandingly effective Healthy Community Initiative. Heath Finders serves as an integral part of the health-related social safety net in Rice County. Growing Up Healthy partners with neighbors marginalized communities to help them leverage their own strong social connections and increase their links to services and social capital.
