Summer Vegetables, Fresh Flowers, Musicians Amy and Adams and Budding Farmers for Kids at Saturday’s Riverwalk Market Fair
Fresh summer vegetables and flowers, music by Amy and Adams, and vegetable stamp art for kids by Budding Farmers are just part of the fun on Saturday, September 14 at Northfield’s Riverwalk Market Fair.
Seasonal Produce From Local Farmers, Artisan Foods, Art and Fine Craft
Produce is abundant at Riverwalk. Expect to find fresh flowers, kale, carrots, onions, broccoli,
potatoes, eggplant, green beans, hot peppers, bell peppers, cabbage, melons, tomatoes, winter squash, and eggs grown by local farmers. Artisan foods include a variety of fresh-baked breads, pastries, tarts and quiches from Ruthie’s Kitchen, Martha’s Eats and Treats, Crack of Dawn Artisan Breads, and Rebecca’s Greek Kouzina. Maria’s Taco Hut serves freshly made and wholesome Mexican food.
Watercolors, photographs, handcrafted leather goods, ceramics, glass art, hand crafted accessories, and jewelry are among the art and fine crafts for sale. (For a complete list of the vendors scheduled for this Saturday visit www.RiverwalkMarketFair.org.)
Apples are in Season
The 2013 apple crop is looking good, and Pat McBride of McBride Farm in Wanamingo is pleased. 2012 was a terrible year for apples. A warm March was followed by an April freeze and topped off by hail and drought so most of the 2012 apple crop was lost. Many local growers also lost their 2010 crop to frost. After poor crops in two of the past four years, an abundant harvest is doubly welcome. Zestar, Williams Pride, and Red Free varieties are abundant now. Honey Crisp will be available by the end of September, followed by Haralson, Fireside, and Connell Red.
Featured Artist Gerie Thelen of Just Me Geralyn and Glass
Geralyn Thelen has been experimenting with new glass color combinations this summer in her vases, serving trays and lawn ornaments. In addition to her trademark blue-green-yellow combinations she has started a color line in grays with red accents, another in oranges, and third in bold florals. One very interesting piece features fused pottery shards in a golden yellow serving plate. What is Gerie’s best seller? “Everyone loves vases,” Gerie said. They are favorite gifts for weddings and at the holidays. Stop by and see Geralyn’s new works in glass.
Musicians Amy and Adams and Budding Farmers Activities for Kids.
Both Amy and Mark Adams-Westin began playing music with their respective families from an early age, so it’s not surprising that this husband and wife duo perform together as Amy and Adams. According to one of their reviews, “Those who enjoy folk music should appreciate the work of Amy and Adams. This is also true for fans of the blues. And rock n’ roll. And just about any other form of music, as Amy and Adams draw their influences from many different artists.”
Kids can create art using stamps in various shapes cut from
fresh vegetables and paint at Riverwalk on Saturday courtesy of the Budding Farmers program. At Riverwalk even the vegetables are a work of art!
