October 20 at Riverwalk Market Fair – Enjoy the Bountiful Local Harvest
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (October 16, 2012) – This Saturday at Riverwalk Market Fair it’s time to stock up on the harvest’s root vegetables, squash, herbs and apples while enjoying culinary treats from skilled food artisans. Afterwards, head to the Studio ArTour and visit the 52 artists and 24 art studios open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Northfield, Cannon Falls and Faribault. Tour maps are available at Riverwalk Market Fair, downtown shops and www.StudioArTour.com. (Note, last Saturday’s Fair was closed due to the threat of lightening in the forecast. The Fair is open along the riverfront through October.)
Featured Food Artisan: Kathy Jandro
Kathy Jandro’s baking business called Kathy’s Kolachy, named after her signature pastry, is featured this Saturday. Jandro describes herself as “a full-blooded Czech” and says she has been teaching the next generation in her family how to make her home-baked kolaches. From now through December she will give fair-goers a chance to also develop a taste for Czechoslovakian sweet breads in addition to her energy bars.
Featured Artist: Geralyn Thelen
Geralyn Thelen has hardly missed a Saturday of this year’s Riverwalk Market Fair. She is popular for her bright-colored glass creations inspired by years of quilt-making. Her work strikes geometric lines like those in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Thelen’s glasswork, sold under the name Just Me Geralyn and Glass, can be found both at Riverwalk Market Fair and at The Orange Dragon, a gallery in Prescott, Wisc.
Musical Highlight: Keeley Nichole Susienka
