Featured Farmers’ Market Vendor Gohlike Family Maple Syrup
The Gohlike family has been tapping maple trees and making maple syrup for three generations in the same woods near Lonsdale, MN. Their syrup is 100% pure maple syrup with no additives or preservatives. The Gohlikes first cook the syrup in an evaporator over a wood fire, and then they filter, bottle, and seal it. Bottles have a fliptop cap for easy pouring.
Featured Artist: Barbara Zaveruha of Prairie Creek Pottery
In the early 1990’s, Barbara came across some clay in the woods, took it home, searched for information, cleaned the clay, made pinch pots, and fired them in the fireplace. She says, “Loved it. Loved the idea of starting with earth and ending with dishes.”
Most of Barbara’s work is now thrown on a Japanese-style kick-wheel, but she also make slab-built plates, trays, and vases. Some pieces are decorated with carvings, impressions, or slips before being glazed. Her high temperature firing (2350 °F), in either a propane kiln or a wood-fired kiln, gives a strong, nonporous body and a hard glaze that is resistant to scratching and leaching, also making pieces microwave- and dishwasher-safe.
Barb has just finished building a studio next to her home in the country, and is very excited to have everything in one place.
Featured Artist: Brad Paulson of Brad’s Woodworking
Brad loves to bring out the natural beauty of wood in everything he makes. Seeking out wood with lots of character, he uses wood from farmers and small lumber mills, and creates in simple styles to feature the woods’ grains, knots and colors. Some of his most striking pieces have a natural edge. Having expanded from making occasional tables and small pieces like cutting boards and wine racks to dog dishes, plant stands, mirrors and garbage cans, Brad has been selling his work for about seven years and does custom work as well.

Music on September 24 by Josh Ruebeck and Briannon Carlsen
Josh Ruebeck is a Carleton College student with a love and appreciation for folk music that belies his youth. A musician since he was 7 years old, Josh gravitated to the music of Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan because of the stories told in those songs. The music inspired him to learn to play the guitar, the cello, and develop his voice into a fine instrument as well. He and fellow Carleton student Briannon Carlsen will be sharing their favorite folk songs this Saturday.
