Featured Farmer: Martha’s Eats & Treats
People line up all morning for their weekly taste of Martha Schuetzle’s sweet and savory croissants, turnovers, quiches, and tarts. In her seventh season at Riverwalk Market Fair, Martha makes everything from scratch, including all her laminated pastries. She uses regional ingredients whenever she can, including vegetables and herbs from her garden, Valley View Dairy products, and North Dakota Mill flour, which is unbleached and contains no bromates. A few years ago, Martha’s Riverwalk Market Fair success led her to open her own brick-and-mortar shop in Dundas, where you can find her delicious eats and treats on Fridays and Saturdays.
Featured Artist: Melinda Wolff
New-to-Riverwalk Market Fair artist Melinda Wolff recently quit her corporate job to follow her dream to work full-time as a jewelry artist! Melinda takes the bits and pieces of wood discarded by her woodworker husband and hones the scraps into pendants, earrings, and rings. Their epoxy coatings pull out the grain and color of the wood—till they almost look like glass. Melinda also has a “weird knack” for finding four-leaf clovers, a knack she says she shares with her mom and grandpa. She puts those four-leaf clovers under resin so people can share in the luck by wearing them in jewelry or carrying them in keyrings.
Featured Artist: Lynn Lentz of Stella Sparrow
Jeweler Lynn Lentz is pushing her creative, natural style into new territory this year. She is taking natural elements like shells, feathers, stones, elk antler tips, and wood, and combining them with hand-made beads, leather, and wire-wrapped shapes into statement necklaces, often playing with asymmetry. Elk antler tip pendants are often gold-tipped, and symbolize harmony, happiness, peace, and longevity. She is also making mystical-looking natural crystal bracelets, and you can still find Lynn classics like leather cuffs and triple-wrapped bracelets, stamped with words and sayings.
Live Music on July 23 by Harpist Hannah Flowers
Hannah Flowers once again brings captivating classical and traditional Irish harp music to Riverwalk Market Fair on Saturday. Hannah blends lyric harp playing with a clear soprano voice for an enchanting sound. She released her first CD “Flowers of the Mountain” in 2013, and was one of the recipients for the 2015 Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s “Next Step” grant to attend the summer school of Early Irish Harp in Kilkenny, Ireland. Her latest is creating an Irish Music duo, named Sona, with friend and fiddler Mattie Ernst.
