Story Ideas

  • Riverwalk Market Fair is a fresh idea that’s increasing the vibrancy of downtown Northfield. The Fair combines a farmers’ market with an art fair, music and performances every week along Northfield’s downtown riverfront. The number of visitors nearly doubled from an estimated 12,000 visitors in 2010 to approximately 20,000 visitors last year. The third annual Riverwalk Market Fair is held June 1 to October 19 outdoors, and moves inside during Winter Walk in December.
  • Riverwalk Market Fair helps homegrown entrepreneurs find a market. These entrepreneurs are farmers, food artisans and artists. For example, Kathy Miller, a highly skilled water-colorist, had never sold a painting before displaying at Riverwalk Market Fair. Now she’s consistently commissioned to produce works of art.
  • The Fair is the place for community members and visitors to meet the farmers, artists and food artisans who produce the fresh foods and one-of-a-kind works of art they can buy at the market. Every week visitors can meet a featured farmer and artist of the week. Visit this website’s home page each week for a preview of our featured vendors.
  • This year the Fair hosts youth entrepreneurs — farmers, food artisans and artists — in a Youth Booth sponsored by Healthy Community Initiative, Northfield Enterprise Center and WINGS.
