Last chance to stroll the Fair along the riverfront.

Riverwalk Market Fair’s Fall Festival is this Saturday October 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the riverfront in downtown Northfield. The event will feature a giant cornucopia for children to paint, along with harvest foods and creative cuisine from local farmers and food artisans. In addition, Riverwalk Market Fair’s cornucopia coloring activity appeared in the Northfield News on Saturdays October 13 and October 20. Kids are encouraged to bring their drawings to the Welcome Tent for a free treat.

October 27 is the final Saturday of Riverwalk Market Fair’s outdoor market. The Fair moves indoors to the Northfield Armory in November and December.

Featured Food Artisan: Rebecca Stoufis

Rebecca Stoufis is a new resident of Northfield who introduces Greek cuisine to the Fair for the first time this Saturday. The West Virginia transplant embraces Greek traditions from her husband’s family and will offer homemade baklava, pistachio cake, kourabiethes (sugar cookies) and fudge. Read her blog at www.worldtriptalk.com.

Featured Farmers: Betsy Allister and Andrew Ehrmann

Betsy Allister and Andrew Ehrmann of Spring Wind Farm (www.springwind.org) harvested and hand-threshed 450 pounds of dry beans this season, which they are now selling at the Fair. Three of their four varieties are heirlooms—Montezuma red, Kenearly Yellow Eye (a white bean with a yellow eye) and Tiger’s Eye (gold with maroon swirls). The couple also sells black turtle beans. The freshly harvested beans cook in 45 minutes to an hour with no pre-soaking required. Home chefs will find them perfect for burritos, tacos, black bean soup, chili, and beans and rice. Beans are a great source of protein and fiber.

Friend of the Market: Loren Larson and Barry Cipra

Loren Larson and Barry Cipra will share beautiful wooden puzzles and games, all handcrafted by Larson. Learn about the art of math in wood with these fun, interactive puzzles and games.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (October 16, 2012) – This Saturday at Riverwalk Market Fair it’s time to stock up on the harvest’s root vegetables, squash, herbs and apples while enjoying culinary treats from skilled food artisans. Afterwards, head to the Studio ArTour and visit the 52 artists and 24 art studios open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Northfield, Cannon Falls and Faribault. Tour maps are available at Riverwalk Market Fair, downtown shops and www.StudioArTour.com. (Note, last Saturday’s Fair was closed due to the threat of lightening in the forecast. The Fair is open along the riverfront through October.)

Featured Food Artisan: Kathy Jandro

A month of Saturdays remain at Riverwalk Market Fair along the Cannon River and Bridge Square in historic downtown Northfield. Fair-goers will want to catch every last weekend to stock up on locally grown produce including carrots, cucumbers, herbs, eggplants, onions, pumpkins, squashes and turnips. They can also visit their favorite artists and food artisans while strolling amidst the brilliant fall colors before it the Fair moves indoors through December.

Featured Artist: Kathy Miller

This Saturday’s featured artist, Kathy Miller (www.kmillerwatercolors.com), has displayed her watercolor paintings at Riverwalk Market Fair since it opened three years ago. At home in her Northfield studio, she paints the natural beauty of what she sees. Having painted since 2006, her skill and passion have jumpstarted a second career. Miller’s first career was teaching school. Although she has retired, she is now teaching watercolor classes to budding artists of any age.

Featured Farmer: Simple Harvest Farm Organics

Kathy (pictured above) and Nick Zeman of Simple Harvest Farm Organics (www.simpleharvestfarm.com) in Nerstrand offer Fair-goers opportunities to make winter cozy. Look for Icelandic wool, handspun yarn and sheepskin rugs so soft that curling up on one next to a roaring fire with the snow falling outdoors is a welcoming image as the summer retreats.

Youth Booth: Bell and Bella

Bella Smith and Bella Callery, operating as Bella & Bella, will sell homemade dog treats at the Youth Booth.

Friend of the Market: HealthFinders Collaborative
