Featured Farmer, Artist & Musician, June 2
Opening Day Highlights
Northfield’s Riverwalk Market Fair kicks off the 2012 season on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each Saturday one farmer and one artist from the Fair will be featured. Visitors are encouraged to stop by their tents to get acquainted with these passionate entrepreneurs and learn more about what they have to offer.
This Saturday’s featured farmer is the sister-brother team of Kathy and Nick Zeman. The Zeman family farm is Simple Harvest Farm Organics (www.simpleharvestfarm.com) located in Nerstrand, Minn. The Zeman family has been farming for generations and purchased Simple Harvest Farm Organics in 2006. An omnivore farm, all its produce is organic and livestock are fed locally certified organic grains. This Saturday the Zeman’s tent will feature Nick’s Eggs, duck eggs revered by fastidious bakers, homemade rhubarb roll-ups, certified organic herb plants and goat milk soap in a variety of scents.
This Saturday fair visitors also can meet emerging artist Alexandra Betzler (www.alexandrabetzler.com) who painted the rooster, “Cocorico,” which was selected as the official Riverwalk Market Fair poster for 2012. Betzler paints landscapes, still lifes and portraits. “I strive to produce meaningful work with a pinch of humor,” says the Northfield native. Alexandra has relocated to Minneapolis where she works for the Minneapolis Television Network teaching children video production and media literacy skills.
Music at the Fair
Singer and hammered dulcimer player Kathleen Johnson (www.kathleen-johnson.com) will be performing at Riverwalk Market Fair’s opening day. Johnson was classically trained at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and has performed throughout the United States and Canada. She has a special talent for bringing to life a variety of traditional music including Irish melodies and lullabies, Scottish ballads and familiar Shaker tunes.
