Featured Farmer Seasons Fresh

Chong Yang 2015.06.20.smKia Vang, her husband Sai Vue, and her two youngest boys do all the farming on their 10 acres near Hastings and Rosemount. Farming since 2003, they have developed a bountiful selection of pesticide-free vegetables and beautiful big-headed flowers like lilies and sunflowers which they bring to market every week. You can find everything from snow peas, potatoes, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers to beans, raspberries and their specialty ground cherries at their booth in season.

Featured Artist Chris Casper of Emergent Visions Photography

Emergent Visions. Chris Casper 2015-07-25.smChris Casper’s first life as an artist was as a professional trumpeter. After a substantial stint doing IT work, his second life as an artist has emerged. A trip to Alaska inspired his understanding of the camera as the vehicle through which he can now produce art—art which conveys not simply what was there, but what he saw in the moment. Many of Chris’ images are grand vistas, full of sky and earth and color, taken in the country’s national parks, but there are also smaller moments—bark peeling off a birch trunk, vivid colors of fall popping off canvas.

Featured Artist Benjamin Leatham of Cannon River Bowl and Spoon

2015-07-18 Ben Leatham as an architectural millworker, Benjamin Leatham has created custom wood moldings, casings, paneling, cabinetry, and furniture for grand mansions in the Washington, DC area. Life now brings him, his family, and his elegant yet rustic kitchen utensils, interpreted in wood, to us. Living by the philosophy of “surround yourself with things you find beautiful and use them every day,” Benjamin makes beautiful, useful wood rolling pins, ladles, huge carved bowls, and more, and fills his winters making custom furniture.

This week’s Youth Activity will be led by local Girl Scouts.
