Spring greens and radishes

Seasonal Produce from Local Farmers, Artisan Foods, Art and Fine Craft

Farmers have early summer produce such as fresh-picked salad greens, spinach, rhubarb, radishes, kale, and green onions, along with a variety of bedding plants, tomatoes, and goat milk soap. Artisan foods include fresh-baked breads, delicious sweet and savory pastries, locally roasted coffee, and salsa.

Watercolor and acrylic paintings, Henna art, fused glass art, woodworking, fiber art, and jewelry are among the art and fine crafts for sale.

John Besse Ruf Acres farmRipe, locally grown Ruf Acres Farm tomatoes are in season now!

Farmers John Besse and his wife Ellen Saul have their tastes-like-summer, juicy tomatoes available now, and will be bringing strawberries to market later this season. Their local, soil-grown, chemical-free tomatoes are grown in raised beds in an industrial-sized greenhouse to allow the plants to start very early. Varieties include Mountain Fresh, Sakura Cherry, Heirlooms, Pink Beauties, and Red Pearl Grape.

Henna Artist Ishrat Sharmin of Artistic Henna

Ishrat Sharmin, Artistic Henna“Henna is part of my culture, and is a passion for me,” states artist Ishrat Sharmin. She points out that because henna is temporary, all-natural, and chemical-free, this allows people who are nervous about permanent tattoos to try out body art to see if they like it, and that its temporary nature also allows people to follow their own changing tastes. She loves that she is able to represent her Indian culture and its beautiful design heritage.  https://www.facebook.com/myartistichenna

Folk Dancing by Northfield Art Guild’s Mexican Folklorico, Shakespeare Dance

Mexico Folklorico performers July 2013Mexican Folklorico, performing from 12:45pm-1pm, is rooted in an ongoing dance class at the Northfield Arts Guild (NAG) where young people learn traditional dances from Mexico.  Mexican Folklorico dances tell stories of the various Mexican cultures, and the dancers’ colorful full-circle skirts are used to amplify dramatic movements and shapes.

Other NAG groups, including traditional English dance, will perform from 9:45-10am, 10:45-11am, and 11:45-noon. At the Riverwalk Market Fair Youth Activity Booth, NAG will be leading activities based on the theme of Mexico and Mexican culture; activities will include paper plate crafts and coloring pages.
