Riverwalk Market Fair Hosts Special Project: Wandering House

June 29, July 13 & 27, August 10, 24 & 31

 Project Overview

The Wandering House features a fish house retrofitted as a mobile audio-recording studio. It is a multidisciplinary project and a process-oriented exploration of who we are as a community. With support from partners throughout Northfield, Cecilia Cornejo Sotelo—originally from Chile and a long-time resident of Northfield—invites community members to record their oral testimonies as they reflect on the significance of home, a multi-layered concept in a constant state of flux as more people around the globe become displaced. The gathering process extends from June to December 2019 at which point the project’s findings will be shared with the community at a public event. The Wandering House is designed to encourage curiosity and reflection, engaging Northfielders in the production of collective, mutual knowledge, while challenging the prevailing representations of rural people and immigrants alike.

The Wandering House has received support from the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, the Public Works Initiative from Carleton College as well as enthusiastic support from key city organizations such as the City of Northfield, the Human Rights Commission, the Arts and Culture Commission, the Northfield Arts Guild, the Northfield Public Library, and Riverwalk Market Fair.
